Design Builder Query

?Hi?

Tough call, without background information it?s hard to say any specific
reason causing this problem. Someone could only help you *better* if you
explain your problem *better*?!!?

*Too large*
?or?
*Complex* both requires different
?set of ?
approach to resolve
? the problem?
; part of this could
?be
your modeling approach within E+ and part in Design Builder. In my
experience 100,000 m2 *Large* Building
?sometime ?
might take less simulation run time compared to 10,000 m2 depending on the
*complexity*. If I were you I would look into:

1. Building
?Geometry?
-
?M?
ore surfaces more run time
2. No. Of glazing surfaces? more sub surfaces more run time. You should
lump small windows into one large window if the boundaries conditions are
same
3. Daylight
?S?
ensor?
4. Shading elements?
5.
? ?
Complexity
?o?
f HVAC system
?
?Refer I/O reference file OR Report from LBNL Link

?
?
6. Executing run through
?DB ?
simulation manager?
?
Its faster? than simulating within DB
?
7. Using DesignBuilder interface for result
?V?
isualization? It takes more time to reload
? OR use xEsoView or DB Result Viewer?

As said
?there are many ?
reasons
?that ?
could
? increase simulation run time. I encourage ?to investigate it further and
simplify few things within reasonable limits.

Also take a look at the outputs you?ve requested. If, for example, you?ve requested sub-hourly outputs, surface-level results etc. to be stored and generated for a large and/or complex building that can have a significant effect. Can you try re-running the simulation and selecting only annual/monthly results, perhaps with fewer outputs as a starting point? As Javed says, you should contact the DesignBuilder support desk if you can?t resolve the issue. You can raise a support ticket here: https://support.designbuilder.co.uk/index.php?/Tickets/Submit

Thanks

Javed, J. Alstan and David for your responses. However i had tried all
the possibilities,
at-least the ones mentioned by David
of selecting only the bear minimum output options. I have only selected
Annual/Monthly results. Also initially since the simulation
was taking way too long with the model having many zones,I also simulated
the entire building of G+6 floors in two parts ie Gr+3 floors
first by adding adiabatic components above and then 4+6 in part 2. This
took less time and also gave me the necessary output
summary files. Also the model does'nt have any shading elements and also
the WWR is about just 30%. Also no sensors and it has the
default ASHRAE system 8 HVAC for base case.

What is surprising is that i am getting the graphs and basic table summary
results at the end of the simulation however the detail summary
output results is not seen.

Thanks i will keep searching options and also will try putting a ticket on
the website.

Thanks again.

Namrata

Dear All,

I have simulated a project building in Design Builder however after around
7 hours of running the simulation I am unable to see the final summary
results page. I think this is due to the model being heavy and due to that
that the results too are too large to display. Any help to retrieve that
result page would help me immensely.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Namrata

Dear Namrata,

One other option is to export your simulation as an IDF and run the file
manually using the appropriate version of EnergyPlus, which should
result in data in a CSV format for your analysis.

Best,

Alstan
