Another Newbe Question

I am creating my first model. DD Wizard Screen 14.
I've created the 2nd 3rd and 4th floor in a five story bldg. Can't seem to assign them to the "Middle Above Grade" floor plan shown below.
No dialog box appears.

Help says I should see this dialog box:

Hi Frank:

I see you are in the DD Wizard, so you have the ability to assign those spaces to individual floors. However, you show only three floor plans and you are trying to name five. If you cut down the 2, 3, and 4 to say "Middle" you should be able to assign that Middle Zone to the middle floor plan.

See attached. BTW, I am using Version 3.64. If you installed 3.65, you can read it OK. I and others have some issues with the newer Version.

John/Frank:

I might be reading this wrong, but I think Frank may have actually unintentionally misled himself with his zone group naming scheme?

To make a clarifying distinction: ?Zone groups? are not how floors are defined. They are merely ratios of space types, assigned to the geometrical spaces defined in previous DD wizard shell screens, with (optionally) zonal exhaust inputs (via the ?zone group details?? button), and assignment to a specific HVAC system type (if you have more than one).

If I?m not mistaken, you have likely set up a 5-story building as a single shell, which means floors 2/3/4 are actually the same thing repeated 3 times. They can be differentiated after the wizards in detailed mode, if you do not tick the floor multiplier option in the first screen, but if you mean to utilize the wizard?s handy activity area allocation capacities to assign unique space allocations to each floor, you?ll need to make more than one shell (most directly, 1 shell per level).

As it stands, you can continue making unique zone group definitions (which simply assign a weighting of space types), but you could assign only three zone allocations at most, as it appears you only have 3 unique spaces (1 per floor). If you are okay with floors 2,3,4 sharing the same weighting of space allocations however, then you wouldn?t need to rethink your shell situation.

If you left-click on the middle floor space in the first screenshot you provided, do you get the context dialog to assign a defined zone group? You should be doing that for each space.

Hope that?s helpful,

Nick,
You are exactly right. I mixed up zones and activity Area Allocations.
Back on track.
